City Council Candidates Questionnaire

Bike Santa Fe asked City Council candidates what they’ll do to improve biking in Santa Fe, how often they ride, and other questions about transportation:

  1. How often do you ride a bike around Santa Fe to commute, run errands, or for exercise? Do you ride in all four seasons?

  2. In your opinion, what makes it challenging to ride a bike around Santa Fe?

  3. Have you experienced other cities’ bicycling infrastructure?  If so, which one/s and what do you think worked/didn’t work well to make you feel safe?

  4. What is your vision for transportation and mobility in the city of Santa Fe? How would you support transportation options for Santa Feans who don’t have access to a car, have a disability, and/or prefer to get around by sustainable, healthy modes of transportation such as transit, walking, biking, etc?

  5. How can the city improve coordination among its various departments to improve cycling infrastructure in Santa Fe?

  6. Traffic deaths and injuries are on the rise, both nationally and in New Mexico. Many U.S cities have enacted so-called Vision Zero resolutions, setting an explicit goal to eliminate traffic deaths. If elected to the city council, will you sponsor such a resolution?

  7. What role do you think reducing driving has in meeting sustainable climate targets? What can Santa Fe do to support transit, walking, and bicycling in place of driving for shorter trips?

  8. In your opinion, is creating additional bicycling infrastructure ever sufficiently important to justify removing on-street parking?
